A 60MW industrial-scale green hydrogen plant will next year (2023) be operational in the Camaçari Industrial Complex, Brazil, with plans to quadruple this capacity already in place.

Believed to be a first of its type for the Latin American country, the plant will be comprised of three 20MW standard electrolysers to produce 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 60,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

Each of the electrolysers will be supplied by thyssenkrupp nucera.

Chemical company Unigel on Tuesday (26th July) confirmed plans for the plant that could, in the near future, produce up to 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually with the addition of more electrolysers.

it has been confirmed that the produced products will be offered to customers that are looking to decarbonise their product chains, such as those involved in the steel industry, oil refining and e-fuels.

In order to achieve the above, it is believed more than 500 jobs will be up for grabs.

CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera, added, “This project is the first of its kind in Brazil and reinforces the pioneering spirit of Unigel to produce green molecules on an industrial scale.as Brazil is one of the world-leading countries in terms of installed renewable energy, we are pleased to enter this partnership to make green hydrogen an affordable energy vector already today.”
